Living La Corte

Some places mirror the soul, linger in the eyes, and pause the passage of time. Some experiences are felt deeply, filling the senses and enriching the spirit.

The subtle pleasure of "Dolce far niente"

At Corte della Maestà and Corte al Lago, there’s no need to chase after experiences – just pause, and they will come.
They dwell quietly in the delicate details of everyday life, gently unfolding within the spaces of our Timeless Retreats.

Listen to music in La Tana del Lupo, perhaps with a glass of wine in hand. Gaze out over the lake as the sun kisses the water. Surrender to the warmth of the spa, let a long massage restore you. Or simply lie back in the garden, guessing the shapes of drifting clouds.

The spaces of the Corte – whether in Civita di Bagnoregio or by the lake in Bolsena – call softly to the dolce far niente, like a siren’s song.
We invite you to surrender to its whisper: it’s not every day that time pauses, and the passing hours feel like a precious gift offered to oneself.

Breakfast

Morning deserves gold

At Corte della Maestà, each new day is honoured with a sumptuous breakfast—one that satisfies the palate and enchants the eye.
Breakfast is a cherished ritual here, an essential expression of the Corte’s spirit and a tradition we love to tend to personally.
Thus, the Vescovado’s Garden and the kitchen are transformed into a morning enchantment of set tables, fresh flowers, lace and linen.
Every breakfast setting is unique, thoughtfully composed with delicate English china, French silverware, antique teapots and coffee sets, and crystal glassware gathered from across old Europe.
On the table, sweet and savoury offerings vie for attention in a symphony of colour and aroma: the fragrance of freshly baked cakes, the boldness of aged cheese, the rich scent of moka coffee, the sizzle of eggs on the stove, the delicate presence of hand-sliced prosciutto, and the vibrant hues of seasonal fruit.

Civita di Bagnoregio

Above the clouds, the majestic tuff acropolis

“If there is one word that belongs to this village drawn toward the sky, it is ‘dignity.’
Dignity in its history, which passed through without ever wounding it fatally. Dignity in the way nature carved its powerful flanks yet spared the lacework of its time-softened rooftops and the bell tower, rising like a spear. Dignity in beauty that never lapses into vulgar opulence, but remains clear and pure—like the ochre of this cluster of houses at dawn. A village devoid of showiness, rejecting any vain human impulse for adornment or even preservation.
You understand Civita when evening falls and the shadows move around you like silent, untamed cats. You understand it when the mist fills the base of the calanchi and lets it rise, resting lightly on a cloud. You understand it when, looking eastward, it resembles the prow of an ocean liner gliding through vineyards and olive groves, cutting through history and dreams.
Civita is a life experience: it teaches that nothing truly good or beautiful comes easily, that every step must be earned, and that there are moments when everything seems to crumble—until you realize it’s just a fragment, gently loosening…”

Borgo Castello and Lake Bolsena

THE TUSCIA AND ITS ETRUSCAN BEAUTY

The medieval village overlooking Italy’s most enchanting lake is a labyrinth of cobbled lanes, sun-kissed stone walls, and windows gazing out over a deep blue horizon, presided over by the Rocca Monaldeschi.
Its squared silhouette reaches the sky, watching silently over the village below—a patient expression of lived history. The noise of the present stays outside, like a fleeting distraction. What remains is substance: the whisper of stones, the soft steps of sunlight, the distant call of water.
This is a place to listen to slowly, to discover on foot while cicadas pierce the silence and you draw near to the lake’s gentle waters.
Here, pausing on the pebbled shore to soak in the sun becomes a quiet celebration of slowness, of time rediscovered, of haste finally calmed.

To recreate the sensations our guests experience in Civita—this is what guided our decision to bring Corte della Maestà to the shores of Lake Bolsena, inviting them to explore the richness of Tuscia’s extraordinary landscapes.

Corte della Maestà and Corte al Lago - an experience beyond the experience, a tender interplay of spaces, moods, and vistas.
